East Midlands

We are an inclusive, informal group of people supporting each other to value and integrate our spirituality and sexuality. Anyone supporting the group’s purposes may join us: it is not necessary to be lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered or Catholic.

Forthcoming Events and News for 2019

We will be advising on upcoming events throughout the year.  Our remaining programme for 2019 includes a trip up to York to attend the Middlesbrough Diocese monthly Mass for LGBT+ Catholics on Sunday 14th July and joining Christians Together at Pride and St Nicholas’ CofE Church for Leicester Pride on Saturday 31st August.

So far this year

Our programme has included a walk around Osmaston and Shirley in Derbyshire, an evening of sharing our stories as LGBT Catholics over dinner, and watching the film “The Boy Who Found Gold” about the life of William Hart McNichols, a gay American priest who is an artist and iconographer.

In May, members of Quest East Midlands and friends from around the country joined together for what has become an annual weekend retreat at Mount St Bernard Abbey in Leicestershire.  The weekend was an occasion to depart from our busy lives to grow and develop our faith, through prayer and reflection. We extended our thanks to the community at Mount Saint Bernard for their hospitality.

Some of the things we’ve done recently included:

A picnic and stroll around Wollaton Park in Nottingham

Going to Leicester Pride

A walk in Lathkill Dale

Going to the Nottingham Diocese Mass for LGBT Catholics in Derby (2017)

and the Nottingham Diocese Mass for LGBT Catholics in Nottingham (2018)

Watch this space for updates or contact us by email to find out more about the group.

We also …

… meet informally outside our schedule of events for meals, theatre, cinema – mostly in Leicester.  Get in touch by email (eastmidlands@questlgbti.uk) for more information.

About us

We currently meet monthly. Most of our meetings are in Leicester, but our members come from across the East Midlands. Our meetings include social events, day trips or watching movies of interest to our members. Occasionally we organise retreats and meetings with invited speakers. Some of us, living in Leicester, have been gathering for Morning Prayer most weeks for over 15 years. We meet every Wednesday for Morning Prayer and breakfast at 7.15 am at members’ homes in the city. The Dominican community at Holy Cross Priory, Leicester, have supported us in the past when we have had house Masses.
We are keen to make links with other LGBT Christian and multi-faith groups locally.

Information about the welcoming and inclusive Anglican parish of St Nicholas in the centre of Leicester can be found on their website here. St Nicholas’ is the only church in the East Midlands to be listed by One Body One Faith (OBOF) as a Visible Congregation. You can find out more about OBOF Visible Congregations here.

Members of the group were also involved in the Sexuality Gender Identity and Belief: The Leicester Approach, a join project between Trade Sexual Health and St Philips Centre. More information can be found here.
