“In the Closet of the Vatican: Power, Homosexuality, Hypocrisy” a book by Frederic Martel and translated into English by Shaun Whiteside, is set to be published by Bloomsbury Continuum in February. At just short of 600 pages the book is being promoted as an exposition of “the rot at the heart of the Vatican and the Roman Catholic Church today”.
The publisher declares that Pope Francis has unlocked the closet with his words, “Behind rigidity there is always something hidden, in many cases a double life”. It is reported that many closeted gay clergy are ‘outed’ in the book.
German Cardinal Reinhard Marx recently stated that there will also be unwelcome publicity surrounding February’s abuse summit in Rome. The world will be watching to see whether the Catholic Church is prepared to tackle the problem of sexual and spiritual abuse.
