Committee profiles – Gerard

Gerard Swan – Deputy Chair

A member since about 1996 Gerard found a home for his spirituality and sexuality in Quest.

Inspired by the passion and involvement of members at the 1998 conference (his first), at which the current constitution was vigorously discussed and later adopted by the membership, he has been an active member since, both locally and nationally.

A group convenor in 1999 Gerard later joined the national committee for a period of about six years and within that time held the post of Secretary for a number of years.  He is part of the Leicester steering group.

We live in exciting times as LGBTQ+ Catholics both within the church and within society.  But our place at the Table, gifted at Baptism, isn’t yet fully recognised when we cross the threshold of all of our churches.

Quest continues to have a role supporting LGBTQ+ people of faith to integrate faith with the expression of their God given identities;  to realise their place at the Table.  As an organisation we have a duty to work with and support the hierarchical church to meet us at that Table in the fullness of our Baptism.  We break bread together.

Professionally Gerard has been a facilitative senior manager in education and the social care sectors and has a broad skill set encompasing people development, high level IT skills and project development / implementation.
